ECO : La CEDEAO dénonce la démarche cavalière de l’UEMOA

Faux départ. L’annonce faite le 21 décembre du passage du Franc CFA à l’Eco diversement appréciée dans les capitales ouest africaines. Les pays anglophones de la CEDEA0 appuyés par la Guinée francophone , tapent du poing sur la table.

Dans un communiqué de presse publié ce jour à l’issue d’une réunion extraordinaire des ministres des finances et de l’économie, et des gouverneurs de banques centrales des Etats de l’Afrique de l’ouest sous la présidence de Mamadi Camara, ministre de l’économie et des finances de Guinée, la CEDEAO dénonce la démarche cavalière de l’Uemoa sous la conduite de Alassane Ouattara, le président ivoirien.

Si le conseil félicite l’Uemoa pour sa décision de se départir du FCFA, en revanche il prend note avec préoccupation de la déclaration du Président de la Conférence des Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement de l’UEMOA de renommer unilatéralement le franc CFA « Eco » d’ici 2020.

Mieux, le Conseil de convergence de la Zone Monétaire d’Afrique de l’Ouest (ZMAO) tient à souligner que cette décision n’est pas conforme avec la décision de la conférence des Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement de la CEDEAO d’adopter l’« Eco » comme nom d’une monnaie unique indépendante de la CEDEAO.

Le conseil de la ZMAO réitère l’importance pour tous les Etats membres de la CEDEAO de mettre en œuvre les décisions de la conférence des Chefs d’états et de gouvernement de la CEDEAO concernant l’application de la feuille de route révisée du Programme de monnaie unique de la CEDEAO.

Enfin le Conseil de la ZMAO recommande qu’un sommet extraordinaire de la Conférence des Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement des Etats membres de la ZMAO se réunisse prochainement pour examiner en profondeur cette question et d’autres questions connexes.
